The Development of Online Colleges
The way that the major online colleges have developed their college courses, degree programs and distance learning classes has reflected the rapid technological boom of the Internet. And as online communication has permeated so many facets of everyday life, so users' expectations and sophistication have grown.
Some of these colleges and universities originally developed distant learning as a way to support campus-based students in traditional programs who may have needed to catch up on course work or find extra tutorial support. These students perhaps still attended regular lectures and classes and met for tests and discussions in the usual manner.
This history has colored the perception of modern online courses in some people's eyes. Some people even assume that an online program is a soft option and demands less of a student than a traditional course. The reality and expectations of bona fide online programs is very different.
It's still important to beware of scams and offers of fake degrees. Even today, you may sometimes come across fraudulent offers that promise an academic degree without the need to study for it. Common sense tells you that a diploma offered under such circumstances isn't worth the paper it's written on!

Accreditation is a means by which many genuine institutions work to instill confidence in the academic value of the qualifications they award. Employers are more likely to recognize the value of a degree from an online accredited school.
Nowadays, savvy students recognize the importance of finding out the academic record of any school and know that accreditation is a very important consideration when choosing an online degree college or program.
Online college students in the 21st century are often those who are obliged to combine their studies with the demands of a full-time or part-time job. People who may not be able to commute to a physical campus can study online and gain similar qualifications to those available from traditional programs.
To meet the demands of continuing training for the world of work, these colleges offer degree programs and courses in vocational or professional areas, such as business, or administration, the law or healthcare fields. But liberal arts and humanities courses are also available online, and the range of subjects continues to grow as interest in distance learning becomes more widespread.
