The good news is that educational departments not only in the USA but also across the world have recognized the need and benefit of online degrees financial aid. This is to help university students being able to benefit by allowing them to study from remote locations without needing to relocate to the United States or the country they desire to study in.

How does it work?

Let’s discuss your online degrees options with regards to the online degrees available in the US. It’s actually really quite straightforward, the first thing the university applicant needs to do is to ensure that the department of education in their country has a bi-lateral common online degrees financial aid package agreement with the appropriate department of education in the US State where they intend to study from remote.

As it is clearly indicated by most universities in the US that it is the applicant’s responsibility to check out the options and the University will not be held responsible for inadequate research if their studies cannot be recompensed with online degrees financial aid.

But before you even start thinking of searching for the right financial aid, you should seek a good online degrees service provider to provide you information about the online degrees you are interested in and they will also be able to advise you regarding the appropriate financial aid available.

How does it work for US Students?

As most US citizens have access to broadband internet access, it works extremely well as most US states offer online degrees financial aid for those who opt to return to study instead of being a part of the industrial production machine. Idaho, for example, as part of its IT technology drive for the unemployed offers generous online degrees financial aid for those unemployed who are ready to take up the challenge.

Paul Bruker, famous for predicting the “Knowledge worker” profile as far back as 1958, would have argued strongly for online degrees financial aid if it were available at that time.

Bottom line: Does it really work?

The answer has to be a resounding yes. Why? A recent US Department of Education study found that apart from costing only 40% of the costs for student university attendance, the pass rate was higher. In particular, the student having access to student financial aid was better able to fit their work schedule around their daily requirements. Online degrees financial aid helps performance with relation to those attending the regular courses in the traditional way.

Further investigations proved that having access to online tutorials by video registration and the ability to go backwards and forwards to check key facts made these students more effective. Interestingly, a survey on senior American business managers confirmed the findings in that they were perfectly satisfied with online degree students compared with those who had actually frequented a university during their studies.

The availability of online student financial aid has therefore meant that the students could study and pass their exams without the stress of trying to pay the monthly rent or waiting for the gas or electricity to be cut off. If you are seriously about enhancing your life options, take up the challenge by making your first step today – search for online degrees today!

The advantages of online degrees can be traced back as far as 1728 from Boston Massachusetts; students were offered the opportunity to learn shorthand via a postal correspondence course. With the evolution of more regular and widely available postal services, the choice of training subjects increased and also the number of countries where they were available expanded.

The first recorded distance learning degree was offered as far back as 1858 by the University of London under its External Programme, the creators of this program would have immediately recognized the benefits of being able to offer online degrees if the technology existed at that time.

By 1873, the Society to Encourage Studies at Home was founded in Boston Massachusetts and similar University level remote learning programs were launched in New Zealand and Australia. Universities pushed on using new communications mediums from radio to television and naturally on to the internet.

Online degree benefits for the universities

Do you know some quick research on the internet will yield amazing results? Have you ever imagined a university that has over 3 million students? It actually exists; try to imagine a university with a bigger population than Chicago, the Indira Gandhi National Open University in India has this number of students on its roll. While it may be possible to assume this is only a phenomenon in emerging economies, this is not true.

In the United States where distance learning is born, there are strong players including the University of Chicago where William Rainey Harper perfected the program for extended education and is considered by many as the father of extended learning opportunities with particular appeal to overseas students.

Charles Wedemeyer can be considered as the catalyst that brought the benefits of online degrees into the internet age. Working from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, his challenge was to the University management board with the maxim “goes global or goes nowhere”.

As many potential international students would struggle to find out where Wisconsin actually is and even if they would be able to find it, could they get any benefit from holding a degree in this University’s name? The key breakthrough was when the esteemed Carnegie Foundation threw its weight and approval behind the project in 1964.This support led directly to the opening and continuing success of the British Open University program in 1971.

Online degree advantages for students

The key advantages can be summed up as “anywhere, anytime and anyhow”. The great advantage is that the only passing criteria is that you are up to the mark and able to qualify given that you will submit work consistently, you will not need to relocate or spend hours finding out how to live and study in the university home town. For your tutors and the university professors who are responsible for you, it couldn’t be easier.

In a nutshell, your education process starts with the first step you take to submit an online degree application leading up to your successful graduation, their work is to focus on good prep material, regular course work checking and providing advice to help you improve. The good thing is that all these can be done at a time and place that works for you and for them. So in summary, the online degree benefits are clear to see – will you take the first step?

The most popular online degrees fall into four main sectors and the reasons are not too difficult to work out, one of the main reasons is that coming from the United States, it is assumed and many times correctly, that the study material and tuition is the most advanced in the world. American Universities are torch bearers and know how to make their online degrees readily the most popular online degrees available today. The key subjects that the international community want to study ideally from the US universities in order of importance are; Business Studies, Health Care, Education and Engineering.

A critic would say “Hang on, surely engineering would be better studied from German or Italian sites and universities”. This is a good comment but it belies a basic fact about course materials. We know that US universities have good course materials written in English, though the German and Italian universities have a richer source of research material, they often fail by using more economic content translators who ruin the good content of their work with poor translations.

If you are not sure where to start in order to pursue the qualifications, a good piece of advice is start looking for popular degrees online since these are readily available with numerous options compared to going to a brick and mortar education agent who offers fewer options and charges a higher agent fee.

Business Degrees

Business degrees rank as the most popular online degrees by a wide margin, MIT or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has been the flag bearer in this area. Recognizing that it could be complicated for an aspiring student from far flung parts of the globe to actually relocate to the United States, the chance to achieve this coveted title lead to fierce competition. Bachelors and Masters Degrees in particular with a PhD flavor are the most popular degrees. In the past 20 years, the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) has surged through; this degree course is argued by many to be the first degree to be engineered for the internet and therefore qualifies as the most popular online degree.

Medical Degrees

An official recent report in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in September 2010 claims that they have links to over 80 other countries of official Medical associations. Many subscribers are looking for solutions and therapies not available in their countries, apart from this natural desire to be USA qualified and recognized, but to do so from the right organizations requires the right qualifying criteria and correct screening. The best advice is to check and screen first.

Education

For Education, the most popular education degrees come from the Rasmussen Education Institute and they focus on four key pillars or cornerstones, these are;

To maintain group discipline at all times and ensure an educational setting

Conduct field trips and ensure a total student experience

Directly resolve behavioral and academic problems

Ensure correct grammar, punctuation and spelling (naturally important when your written word is the only means to connect with your employer).

Essentially, a student from India or Pakistan – who would qualify to enter the United States on their academic merits but would not qualify because of the anti terrorism Patriot acts – now can sleep easy; they can achieve their goal by choosing the most popular online degrees. It all boils down to where you start searching and when you start making your first step. Start today!

With modern technology, and our increasingly busy lives, online college degree programs are quickly growing in popularity. In fact, there are now more adults taking classes online than there are sitting in classrooms.

Busy adults no longer have to put their goal of earning a college degree on hold because of their inability to attend day or evening classes on a college campus. No matter what their schedule is, an online degree program can be tailored to enable them to earn a degree within a reasonable time-frame.

That is because, when pursuing an online degree program, students can complete class work when they have time, without worrying about inflexible class schedules and deadlines.

Another major benefit of taking classes online is that the time, trouble, and expenses of commuting are eliminated.

And, they love the fact that they don’t have to worry about being closed out of classes that are already filled or the scheduling conflicts often experienced by traditional students.

By almost always being able to enroll in the classes they need, online degree students can often accelerate the rate at which they are able to earn a degree and sooner begin enjoying the benefits it brings.

Discomfort with technology used to prevent some adults from earning online degrees, but those days are virtually gone. Because almost all jobs now require at least as much computer skill as are needed to take classes online, most adults now feel far more comfortable sitting at a computer than they do in a classroom.

Some students and educators are concerned about losing the human interaction that takes place in a traditional classroom, but it is a mistake to think that no such interaction is possible in online courses. In fact, online classes frequently include webinars and discussion boards that allow for significant interaction among students, and between professors and students.

No responsible educator would suggest that students should not automatically rule out traditional, on-campus degree programs. In fact, for some, it is the best option. But, when most working adults weigh their educational choices, they will conclude that online education offers them the best chance to meet their educational goals without neglecting their professional and/or family responsibilities.

As the demand for the online Bachelor degree rises, so do the number of fake colleges and universities. Some actually offer diplomas for sale to potential customers through bulk emails. However, many take advantage of innocent and unsuspecting students by offering lower than normal tuition fees, credit for life experiences, no tests, and an easy road to that coveted diploma. If it sounds too good to be true, it generally is the case.

So, how do prospective students determine whether an online college is accredited or only offering bogus online Bachelor degrees? Especially for International students, it can be very difficult to determine a school’s validity.

In most cases it is impossible for distance learners to visit the campus, so the website is the only point of contact before making the choice and enrolling, which makes it hard to determine credibility.

The first thing to do is to verify the type of accreditation the college claims to have. Only 6 government agencies have been given the authority by the U.S. Department of Education, to award accreditation to colleges and universities offering online Bachelor degrees. Therefore, if a site brags about worldwide or nationwide accreditation, beware. Unless they specifically name the agency, chances are they are not a legitimate institution of higher education.

Six accreditation agencies have been given the authority to award college accreditation. The agencies are divided by geographic location, so it is possible to contact the appropriate office to determine whether a college or university has legitimate standing and been registered in that district.

The agencies are all appointed by the National Board of Education and include: New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), North Central Association of Schools and Colleges (NCA), Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA), Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NWCCU).

Another tell-tale sign of bogus online bachelor degrees offered is when the university advertises itself through mass-mailing email featuring university degrees for sale. Many bogus distance learning institutions prey on people who are desperate for a degree, but don’t have the time and money to go for proper education. That is why these colleges boast of degrees without any examinations, classes, studying or even waiting.

There are even websites that offer online bachelor degrees for just a few hundred dollars which can be ordered and received within 7 days. Furthermore, some of them also have dubious accrediting links, stating accreditation from agencies which are not any one of the six listed above. Additionally, they offer fixed prices for their Master’s, Bachelor’s, and even Doctorate Degrees. Their justification for awarding degrees will be for giving credit to life experiences such as any type of work experience, any educational background, any workshops or community services attended as well as travel experience, hobbies and even on the number of books that a person has read!

In short, with the plethora of bogus degrees already causing employers to question online education, make sure your online Bachelor degree is earned from a college or university accredited by one of the six agencies endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education.

Distance education courses offer opportunities to earn a degree to students who cannot or do not wish to follow a traditional campus-based program. The development of high speed communication and research facilities via the Internet have opened up immense possibilities for motivated students interested in finding success through distance learning.

For many people, the barriers to fulfilling higher education options include the need to work a regular job, or difficulty traveling to a campus.

But if you enroll in a school that specializes in distant learning programs, it’s usually possible to earn the same degree as if you attended that college as a full or part time student in the traditional way.

Typical Distance Learning Techniques

Distant education courses allow you to follow lectures and complete course work and homework on the web or at your computer.

It’s important to choose the environment and style of learning that’s right for you. Here are some possible options:

Attending a virtual classroom, set up like a message board, blog or forum, where you can interact with your instructor and fellow students when the time is right for you.

Using the aid of technology to observe a traditional class, but at a distance — for example by means of a web camera. These classes may take place live or be recorded for you to replay when you have time to work on your course.

Working from prepared materials on DVD or CD ROM. This is another way of working at your own speed, and may perhaps be combined with attendance on-campus to take tests or discuss your course work with a supervisor.

Email has revolutionized day to day communication, and is likely to play a major part in your contact with your teachers and other students. You can send work in a file attached to a message, and there may be the opportunity to use instant messaging to discuss topics or ask questions.

These are just some of the ways that schools set up their college courses online. From live communication to self study, there are plenty of opportunities for you to find the kind of learning situation that suits with your specific needs.

Another key benefit from pursuing your college courses online is the potential to save money.

If you’re taking time out from work to complete your higher education, it’s likely that you’ll be making a few economies on the way! So finding ways to keep your expenses down is all the more important, particularly when you’re meeting the extra costs of tuition, study materials, books and so on.

When you’re studying for an e-degree, you’ll be spared many of the costs of daily travel to and from school and parking fees. And this doesn’t just mean a saving on the cost of gas or a train ticket. Commuters regularly bemoan the amount of time they waste traveling back and forth. But since you’ll be attending school online as a distance learning student, you can save yourself the chore of sitting in rush hour traffic or waiting for public transport in all weathers.

Many kinds of student appreciate the advantages of receiving degree tuition online. Travel to a campus may be difficult because you are disabled or unable to leave home for another reason. Even access to public transportation is difficult for some who live in more remote areas. E-learning helps to remove such barriers to higher education by bringing your college courses to you.

At some stage in the course of your online degree course, it’s likely that you will need to attend particular events connected with your college. Depending on the nature of your subject, this may be a matter of meeting professors periodically, doing lab work or other field assignments or taking examinations.

When you do an online degree search, check out the structure of the course to find out how often you need to attend group meetings or specific events on a campus or elsewhere. Some sort of attendance at group sessions is to be expected as a part of following college courses online.

You should consider getting an accredited online college degree. This may be your best chance to finally get that degree you have been dreaming of. If you are new to the concept though, you might want to find out more about it to determine if it is for you.

Benefits of Online Degrees

There has been a lot of talk about the benefits of an online degree. If you would like to consider getting your own degree through the internet, you should know that these specific benefits are. Here are only some of them.

Online course do not have a lesser value as classroom course. You can therefore expect to experience the same degree of course difficulty. This also means that a legitimate and accredited online course is as likely to get you hired or promoted as a classroom course.

Online classes let you be your own boss with your time. You therefore don’t have to make extensive changes in your routine or in your important schedules. You can thus pursue your studies even if you are a stay at home parent taking care of the kids or if you are working. Most online classes simply require you to download lessons and tasks.

You can be anywhere and still be able to study. Since most of the world has internet connection of some sort, you can still complete your course requirements. You don’t need to rush to a classroom to learn.

Online studies give you the greatest ease and comfort. You can do everything in any place, position and appearance that is most comfortable to you. You can go to class even if you weren’t properly dressed.

Program Accreditation

You can’t just settle for any accredited online college degree. You shouldn’t forget that there are differences in school and program quality. A degree from a bad school can easily sabotage your learning and career goals.

Accreditation is one thing that you should look for. Don’t enroll if a school does not have an accredited status. Accreditation is the one sign that will tell you that your school has a good program that you can actually use when you work or pursue your career goals. Companies you will be applying in are also likely to be interested in applicants that have finished accredited programs.

Don’t just believe in claims of accreditation though. There are many online schools that do not have real accreditation. They can ask a fake accrediting body to give them accreditation just to attract enrollments.

Online Learning

Schools online aren’t for every student. Just as there are different kinds of schools, there are also different kinds of students. Those who expect to succeed in online programs are those who are highly independent and self-motivated. You basically hold the key to the completion of your online course.

Online students also need to know how to work with technology. Computers and internet connections are your only way to accomplish your learning tasks.

If you think an accredited online college degree is for you, then you should make a go for it now. All you have to do is to make sure you get into the right accredited program.

Online accredited colleges have taken an important step to ensure their students that their courses and programs meet accepted quality standards. In the US, this means that they have been subject to review by a private accrediting agency.

While accreditation itself is not a process undertaken at government level, the US Department of Education does publish a list of the agencies that it deems reliable according to own procedures and criteria. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is a non-governmental body which also reviews accrediting organizations.

According to CHEA, accreditation is a “collegial process of self-review and peer review”. This means that an online college seeking to be accredited will need to put into practice a system to assess its own academic quality according to the standards of an agency and write a summary of its performance. It will also be reviewed by other experts, such as faculty members, and will receive a visit by a team from the agency. The agency then decides whether to grant accreditation or not.

Accredited status can be conferred to the institution as a whole, or to specific programs or departments within a college, depending on the nature of the school or the agency that is conducting the review.

Regional Institutional Accrediting Agencies

Prospective online degree students need to know what different types of accreditation mean and the relative importance of various regional, national and professional agencies. In particular, acceptance by one of the six regional agencies below commands particular attention:

MSA – Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Higher Education

NCA – North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission

NEASC – New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education

NWCCU – Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities

SACS – Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges

WASC – Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities

Credit Transfer

One of the biggest concerns for higher education students is whether they will be able to transfer credits for courses already completed if they change schools in the middle of a course. National accreditation is not always as widely recognized as its regional counterpart, and so credits from regionally accredited schools are often considered more transferable – although accredited status by itself does not guarantee that you can transfer credits. If this is a concern for you, it’s wise to check on different schools’ policies before you enroll.

Accreditation – this is perhaps the most important of the rules. Accreditation confirms that the college meets certain educational standards that are set by the accrediting education agencies. If you earn credits from an accredited online distance education college, chances are you can transfer them to another accredited institution of your choice. Your chances for acquiring a new job or getting a promotion are greatly enhanced if your degree is accredited.

Be aware of degree mills – there are many questionable accrediting agencies out on the internet that are outright fraud and are willing to give fake “accreditation” to any institution willing to pay a certain fee. Some of the degree mills are even owned by these same fake accrediting agencies.

Make sure you do your homework and thoroughly investigate the accreditation that the college of your choice claims to have. While many online colleges are legitimately accredited, be aware that there are many that are not. Check out your prospective college to see if the accrediting body is approved by the United States Department of Education or CHEA.

Does the college and degree program you wish to pursue fit with your long-term goals and career? if you are thinking let’s say, enrolling in an online associate degree program and later hope to earn a bachelors degree (online or campus), find out how likely it is that your associate degree coursework will transfer by looking for a list of colleges which have accept transfer credits.

Just like in a traditional classroom, class size is important. You want to be in a class where your voice can be heard. So check the class size of the college you’re considering.

Find out if the faculty hold any credentials and if they are qualified to teach the program you want to enroll in. If you can dig further to find out what degrees they hold and if they are experienced in teaching online students, this will save you the distress of finding out later that your instructor is a fellow un-qualified student with no education skills.

Find out if it easy to contact your instructor or administration should you have questions or need help. The level of support offered to students varies considerably from college to college. Choose one in line with your needs and expectations.

Most colleges have their online classes rolling out all the time. This is a great thing and makes learning flexible. As such you should not feel pressured by the admission office or anyone else to start your program right away. You should start only when you feel your mind is set to it. This will ensure you stay motivated and put the effort you need to succeed with your classes.

Check out if your program will be offered entirely online or if it will require residency at some point in the course. Some online courses have site projects and require residency so let this not come as a surprise to you.

Many online colleges have some form of financial aid or tuition assistance, loans, grants, scholarships available to their online students. You will be surprised at what you can qualify for. Many online schools offer tuition payment plans and employee reimbursement programs. Make sure you ask what tuition programs are available to you.

Don’t settle for less than quality programs and education when selecting your online distance education program. Unlike there before, when online degree options were severely limited, it is now possible for those willing to spend some time gathering information to find almost exactly the degree program that meets their needs.
